Lidl was inundated with Britons who woke up early this morning to cash in a Bank Holiday Prosecco deal.
Shoppers from around the country shared images of the huge queues online.
Britons love a bargain and this boozy offer was clearly highly popular with those hoping to drink some fizz this bank holiday.
The deal involved six bottles of Aldi’s Allini Processo for £20.
Amazingly, at some stores the offer was sold out in 10 minutes.
Shoppers could not resist the price of £3.33 a bottle. The usual price is £5.79.
Instagram users took to the internet to share their wonder at the huge queues for the deal.
One named Helen Macbeth from Devizes in Wiltshire said: “If I ever need a reminder of just how middle class my home town is, I’m going to look at this photo of people waiting for Lidl to open to buy their 6 bottles of prosecco for £20!
“It was sold out in 10 mins and there were some very angry people that didn’t get any!!” [sic]
Another, Craig Last, from Colchester in Essex, wrote: “The queue at Lidl for discount Prosecco, turns out its 1 box per person and only 20 boxes were out.”
Devon Live quoted one Torquay shopper, who said: “”The car park was packed at 7am, rammed way before opening time.
“There was a long queue in the shop and 50 cases were gone in five minutes.”
This is no huge surprise, as the deal went viral before this bank holiday weekend.
Facebook page Prosecco Watch told its followers yesterday: “Deal Alert Lidl UK *****NEXT WEEKEND*****
“Super weekend deal on 26/27 August – 20% off a case! That’s £3.33 a bottle!!!
“Giving you fair warning as it’s next weekend but worth the heads up now!!”
