Fans of the ITV thriller saw a series of unexpected scenes as Andrew revealed a secret hoard of evidence against himself, followed by Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt) and DI Vanessa Harmon (Shelley Conn) seeking to bring him down.
Teasing further “exciting twists”, Ioan announced that next week’s finale will be set in the future after the leading pair have moved on with their lives.
He explained: “Time has passed and Laura is getting on with her life and Andrew is also in a new relationship, but Laura is brave and she is not going away.
“It looks like Andrew has got away with it – he’s overconfident and thinks he’s untouchable. We wrap up the story but some things will be left open-ended.
“I think viewers will be satisfied but left slightly uneasy. If it leaves you feeling drained, we’ll have succeeded.”
The popular show has received rave reviews for its chilling opening instalment, and now programme makers are said to be interested in exploring Laura’s secret past.
TV insiders have said that ITV are already hoping that the show will become the new Broadchurch in terms of success, having attracted an audience of five million viewers.
Speaking about a second series, Ioan continued: “I wouldn’t want to be the writers if they did have to write another series because I’d worry how you’d create tension when you know he has committed these crimes.”
On a return to the UK following the success of the series, he added to TV Times: “I daren’t come back now because Andrew’s probably the most hated man in Britain!
“I may be on the Tube now and people will move away or the older generation will come at me with their umbrellas!”
Liar concludes next Monday on ITV at 9pm.
