The Good Morning Britain host, 50, admitted that the playful joke between her and guest presenter Jeremy, 52, had developed into a problem in her marriage to Derek Draper, 50.
On today’s instalment of the ITV news programme, Charlotte Hawkins, 42, asked how Derek’s birthday had been.
“Oh, you’ve touched a nerve there,” Kate exclaimed, as Jeremy gasped: “Hold on, nightmare.”
“It didn’t go well, I couldn’t think of what to get him,” Kate continued, adding that an awkward moment between her and Jeremy earlier that day had fallen at a particularly unfortunate time.
“He did kick off a bit though, because that was combined with Jeremy and I nearly kissing by accident on air,” she admitted.
“What has been going on in my absence?!” Charlotte burst out, as Kate said: “I know it’s all kicked off Charlotte, we need you here!”
While Kate tried to explain how they ended up almost sharing a steamy snog last week, Jeremy jokingly leaned in again, causing her to burst out into a fit of flustered giggles, squealing: “Don’t start again it’s taken me five days to calm things down at home!”
“Oh, so he was actually quite upset?” Jeremy asked, shocked.
“He was like, ‘Are you actually having an affair?'” she replied, prompting her co-host to blast: “Derek, come on. It’s only a job!”
“Could be a double bluff,” she quipped, stirring the pot.
“No it isn’t a double bluff, it’s a job!” he insisted, as she looked down the camera, soothing: “I’m only joking, I adore Derek you know that!”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
