Justice League: Superman return CONFIRMED as Henry Cavill teases next movie

In a new interview, the star revealed that he is contractually obliged to play the iconic superhero again, calling it a “wonderful opportunity” to continue the tale.

His character was famously killed off in Batman V Superman, and (spoiler alert) it was one of the worst-kept secrets in movie history that he was resurrected in Justice League.

Speaking to LA Times, Cavill said: “There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story.

“Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colours and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness.”

He added: “A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.”

The DCEU isn’t out of the woods yet, however, with a growing pile of critically panned movies to try and overcome.

To date, Wonder Woman is the only undisputed success of the bunch, although 2013’s Man of Steel performed reasonably well at the box office despite a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Suicide Squad, Batman V Superman and now Justice League, however, have all done poorly in reviews.

Also still to come are Aquaman (2018), Shazam! (2019), Wonder Woman 2 (2019), Cyborg (2020) and Green Lantern Corps (2020), with Flashpoint also expected at some point in the foreseeable future.

The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing and Suicide Squad 2 are also on the cards.

Justice League is out now.
