Justice League has had a troubled route to the big screen.
Now that it has arrived, the movie’s reception from critics and fans has been decidedly mixed.
Everyone can debate the issues over having two directors, late reshoots, a dodgy CGI moustache-removal debacle and a rather underwhelming villain.
What seems clear (or unclear) is that nobody actually gave a satisfactory explanation for how Clark Kent is able to reappear in his old life after a very public burial.
Everyone should know by now that Superman does, in fact, return.
This is not a major issue for the world on screen or the audience in the cinema to swallow. He is an extraterrestrial, god-like being with unfathomable powers. Coming back from the dead is not an incomprehensible thing.
After all, he came back to life in Batman V Superman after being hit by a nuclear bomb and floating in space.
What about Clark?
JUSTICE LEAGUE REVIEW: WE LET A LIFELONG DC FAN HAVE HIS SAY “THE CRITICS ARE WRONG”
Yes, the movie had some beautiful and rather moving moments when Lois Lane and Martha Kent were reunited with Clark. But they obviously know about his dual identity.
At the end of the movie Clark is shown about to walk into the Daily Planet when duty calls and he rips open his shirt and zooms into the sky.
Everyone at the Daily Planet thinks Clark Kent died.
JUSTICE LEAGUE: DID JOSS WHEDON HIDE THIS CRICISM OF THE MOVIE IN THIS SCENE?
Is the movie completely fudging explaining how his return is receieved and accepted?
The movie ended on an upbeat note about all the heroes coming out of the shadows and interacting more with the people of Earth. Does this mean everyone now knows Superman is Clark Kent?
How on Earth could that possibly work?
JUSTICE LEAGUE END CREDITS: IS THIS THE START OF THE LEGION OF DOOM?
If everybody knows, why would Clark continue to work as a lowly reporter? He would be incapable of investiagting anything as a journalist since his cover is blown.
Everybody linked to Clark would immediately be in constant danger since they are the easiest way to hurt or compromise Superman.
Also, wouldn’t everyone (correctly) wonder why he didn’t just concentrate on doing important Superman things?
This option makes no sense at all. However, nor does the other option that plain human Clark’s return from a box in the ground never caused any issues or questions in an office full of press…
