WARNING SPOILERS FOR JURASSIC WORLD FALLEN KINGDOM AHEAD
The Jurassic Park and The Lost World star finally returned as Dr Ian Malcolm in the latest outing of the dinosaur franchise.
Fans caught their first glimpse of an older version of the character in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s trailers.
Malcolm has been brought before a US Senate hearing as someone with an experience of previous events on Isla Nublar.
The US government has been trying to work out what to do with the genetically engineered dinosaurs on the island now that the park has, once again, been taken over by them.
However if fans were expecting to see anymore than this, they’re going to be very disappointed.
Sadly Malcolm’s role is merely a cameo in this scene right near the film’s beginning and end.
Oddly Goldblum took part in the film’s press tour with stars Pratt and Howard despite barely appearing in it at all.
If anything the actor’s role is no more than a few minutes if that.
Nevertheless as in previous films and the Michael Crichton book he is something of a commentator over the situation.
And as this film concludes he point out how humans and dinosaurs are just going to have to co-exist as best they can now many are free on the US mainland.
Malcolm was also the only major returning character from the original trilogy, despite rumours Sam Neill’s Alan Grant could be back.
But with Jurassic World 3 now confirmed for 2021, hopefully Malcolm will actually play a bigger role in the threequel.
It would be great fun to have him team up with Claire and Owen, perhaps alongside Laura Dern and Neill’s characters too.
Maybe making it a better movie too after this disappointing and messy outing – one that would have benefited much more from Goldblum’s humour.
