Julie Andrews is HILARIOUS reliving TRAUMATIC Sound of Music scene 'face down in the dirt'

Everybody knows the scene.

In one of the most famous moments in cinema history, a young nun is high on a hill in Austria, no lonely goatherds in sight, as she bursts into song.

It looks and sounds incredible to this day, but the reality of the shoot was far less perfect.

Andrews had the audience in stitches as she recalled everything that went wrong.

The legendary star was being interviewed by Jimy Kimmel to promote her new movie Despicable Me 3 when she revealed the struggle to even stay on her feet in The Sound of Music.

She said: “We were out there for ages because the weather was not kind to us. Someone forgot to mention that Austria has the world’s seventh highest rain fall. We shot with rain because you don’t see it that much on camera, it has to be an absolute downfall.”

The plucky dame, however, had a far greater task to cope with as a giant helicopter flew straight at her.

She said: “These huge speakers are in the trees because you are lip-syncing, belting out music. And a full orchestra, I don’t even know where they came from?”

“The monstrous helicopter had this cameraman very bravely strapped on the side where the door would be.

“It started at one end of the field and I started at the other and this thing came at me like a giant crab…”

Andrews added: “Every time the helicopter went around me, the downdraft from the jet engines just flung me into the grass.

We did this six or seven times. I was spitting dirt and hay and things like that. I was like, “Couldn’t you take a WIDER circle?’ All I got was, “That’s fine, we’re doing another take.'”
