Jessica Jones Recruits Janet McTeer for Crucial, Top-Secret Season 2 Role

Jessica Jones is about to have her world rocked by an Academy Award nominee.

Janet McTeer (The White Queen, Damages) is joining the series in its second season, Netflix and Marvel announced Thursday, playing an “undisclosed character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.”

“We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season,” series creator/EP Melissa Rosenberg said in a statement. “Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”

McTeer is a two-time Academy Award nominee for her work in 1999’s Tumbleweeds (for which she won a Golden Globe) and 2011’s Albert Nobbs. The actress has also been thrice nominated at the Globes and once more for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Earlier this week, Netflix released a sneaky little teaser for its upcoming Defenders series — which unites characters from several of its existing Marvel shows, including Jessica Jones — premiering Aug. 18.

How do you think McTeer’s yet-unnamed character will factor into Jessica’s hectic world? Drop a comment with your theories below.
