James Cameron ‘IRRITATED’ by Titanic haters: 'It's become fashionable like with Star Wars'

The 1997 classic may be the second highest-grossing film of all time and have won 11 Oscars, but it’s still cool to hate Titanic.

Now in a recent interview, director Cameron was asked if the trend irritated him.

Speaking with Empire, he said: “It became fashionable to say you didn’t like Star Wars for a while.

“I think Freddie Mercury said in his bicycle song: ‘I didn’t like Star Wars, but I just wanna ride my bicycle.’”

Cameron continued: “Sold three million on that one. So yeah. sure.

“But it’s a total revision. And its mostly a revision coming from men, by the way.

The interviewer then asked if he meant this was because of Titanic’s love story.

The director replied: “Absolutely. I always say that the re-release of Titanic in 3D was so that men could cry and be seen ‘cause the glasses covered it up.”

Cameron said: “I have to say that I felt that George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination.

“This film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you have seen before and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters.

“So for me, the jury’s out. I want to see where they’re going with it.”
