The 45-year-old Elba is 4/1 to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, but actor and director Clarke reckons he won’t be the first black 007.
Speaking on Talk Stew, he said: “I think John Boyega could be James Bond. Will be James Bond.”
Presenter Reggie Yates replied: “Before Idris?”
Clarke explained: “Idris won’t get it, here’s what will happen…”
He continued: “I don’t think they’re ready for a black Bond.
“So there will be another white guy, that guy will do six / seven years, and then John Boyega will be about the right age and so John will be the next one.”
Reggie asked: “Do you think there will ever be a black Bond?”
Clarke replied: “Yeah. His name is John Boyega.”
The 25-year-old Brit is best known for playing Finn in Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi and is currently 33/1 to be the next 007.
Meanwhile Black Panther’s Daniel Kaluuya, who is Oscar-nominated for Get Out, is currently at 12/1.
Nevertheless both Tom Hardy and James Norton are still the neck and neck favourites, with most bookmakers giving them odds of 3/1.
Daniel Craig will return for his fifth and final James Bond film in November 2019.
