James Bond 25: Meghan Markle to be new Bond Girl? Prince Harry's girlfriend is a contender

While Daniel Craig is hotly tipped to reprise his role as 007 for one more adventure, each of the movies in the series traditionally has a female lead, too – and the bookies have made their predictions known.

Somewhat surprisingly, Meghan Markle has popped up on SportingBet’s list – with odds of 16/1. She’s also been priced at 40/1 by PaddyPower.

Whether her appearance on the list is due to an influx of punters placing money, insider knowledge, or purely because she’s currently in the public eye remains a mystery – but after her work in Suits, Markle certainly has the acting chops to prove she’d be more than stunt casting.

It is, however, Margot Robbie who is listed as the favourite with SpotingBet – with odds of 9/2.

She is followed by another surprise candidate, Jennifer Lawrence on 6/1; then Gugu Mbatha-Raw on 8/1 and Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot on 9/1.

Former Game of Thrones favourite Natalie Dormer is on 10/1 alongside Bollywood megastar Priyanka Chopra. Alicia Vikander is at 16/1 alongside Markle, and Anne Hathaway, Elzabeth Banks and Ellie Bamber share 20/1.

Emilia Clarke and Emily Blunt are also each on 20/1, alongside Haley Bennett, Hayley Atwell and Morena Baccarin.

Other candidates further down the list include Anna Kendrick (25/1), Rihanna (33/1), Brie Larson (40/1) and Rose Byrne (40/1).

It was previously reported that Cara Delevingne could be in with a shot, but given her absence from the bookies’ list altogether, it seems punters have taken the claims with a huge pinch of salt.

Last weekend it was reported that the new movie would take its lead from a 2001 novel, and be named Shatterhand – however the book’s author denied that this was the case.

Bond 25 is out in November 2019.
