Since it’s release earlier this month, the IT movie has made over £350 million worldwide and become the biggest horror movie of all time – topping The Exorcist’s record from 1973.
Seeing as the film was only the first half of Stephen King’s iconic novel, fans have been wondering when the sequel will be arriving.
Director Andy Muschietti has said the script should be completed by January 2018 and now a release date has been revealed.
According to Deadline, IT movie part 2 will be released on September 6, 2019.
While the IT movie was set in 1989, the sequel will take place 27 years later when an adult Losers’ Club is drawn back to Derry after hearing that Pennywise has returned.
The actor said: “I am attached to it but that’s all I can say, we’re in the early stages and I’m talking to Andy [the director] about it and figuring out what IT will be.
“It’s a different story but I’m excited to delve in deeper to the character as there’s more exploration for who Pennywise is.”
When asked how his evil clown would be different three decades later, dealing with the fears of adults, the star said: “Yeah I think we’ll see where it goes but it’s definitely just… reading the movie and the book and talking about the second one, we have to raise the ante and not just do the same thing again so I’m looking forward to that process.”
IT movie part 2 will be released on September 6, 2019.
