How to get a free replacement tumble drier after hundreds deemed too dangerous to use

If you have one of the faulty machines sold under the Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline brand names then you should demand a replacement from the shop you bought the machine from.

The machines could burst into flames – prompting understandable safety concerns among members of the British public.

Customers have been told to unplug the machine and wait for a repair man – but it is taking engineers weeks to make it to some customers.

Legal experts say you are entitled to a new, free tumble drier now.

Authorities warned in June that millions of lives are at risk due to fires caused by faulty tumble dryers.

By going to the shop where you bought the tumble drier you can claim a new one.

As the tumble driers were sold under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, products bought from shops must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.

The responsibility falls to the retailers to replace or repair the machine.

Chris Haan, a solicitor at Leigh Day in London, told the Daily Mail: “Most people don’t realise that their contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer.”

You can also claim compensation for losses caused by the faulty drier, such as using a laundrette.

How to check your machine is safe

Look inside your drier door or on the back of the machine for a green sticker.

If the green sticker appears the machine is safe to use.

If you can’t find one you may well have a faulty and dangerous machine.

How to get a repair

Go to the Hotpoint or Indesit website to register for a free repair, or you can call 0800 151 0905.

Otherwise you can go to the retailer and ask for a free replacements.

If you want a free replacement, try the retailer that sold you the dryer.

If you paid by credit card you can claim against the provider. Make sure you quote “Section 75 rules” when asking for your money back.
