Princess Diana, who tragically died on 31 August 1997, was one of the world’s most watched women.
The Princess of Wales was followed by paparazzi, keen for an image of the beautiful royal.
A friend of the Princess, and a fashion designer, has revealed Diana had a clever sartorial trick.
The royal used a bag to cover her chest when stepping out of cars.
According to Anya Hindmarch, Princess Diana created the “cleavage bag”.
The designer often worked with the royal and said the invention made the two giggle.
Harper’s Bazaar report Anya Hindmarch, 50, said: “We used to laugh when we designed what she called her ‘cleavage bags,’ little satin clutches which she would cover her cleavage with when she stepped out of cars.”
Many photos of Diana getting out of cars show her putting the trick to use.
On 26 October 1995 Diana was seem leaving her car at the premier of the film ‘Haunted’ in London.
She wore a blue dress by Catherine Walker and held a blue satin clutch in front of her chest.
Diana did similar in 1 July 1997, her birthday, holding a black bag in front of her.
The Princess of Wales may well have learnt the hard way.
In December 1990 she wore a yellow jacket and black dress.
Without a clutch bag her cleavage was left a little exposed.
