Video footage emerged yesterday of a man appearing to snatch a towel away from a young fan which had been thrown into the crowd by US tennis ace Jack Sock.
Holly Willoughby, 36, and Phillip Schofield, 55, clearly had different opinions after watching the clip and began to argue their points during the opening of the ITV show.
“We disagree on this. You’re much more compassionate to the man who was in the front row,” Phillip started.
“I think it was a misunderstanding,” Holly replied, before going on to explain what she thinks really happened.
However, father-of-two Phillip was desperate to have his say and continued: “So from my point of view, here is a young chap who’s shouted from behind him…”
“Did you hear him shout?” Holly interrupted him, before Phillip snapped: “Well obviously the tennis player did!”
“Maybe he caught his eye…” Holly interjected with a cheeky grin on her face.
“They’re not making eye contact!” Phillip exclaimed. “So the guy has gone, ‘can I have your towel?’ behind said man’s head so he can hear him.
“While he was talking to his wife…” Holy added.
“Well he should be paying attention!” Phillip shrieked. “And not only that, I think the thing that fully condemns the man for snatching a towel off a child is the fact that he looks up!”
“But he thinks it’s fallen in his lap that’s why!” Holly replied, while still trying to argue her point.
“Well obviously Judy Murray doesn’t agree with you!” Phillip said, referring to a tweet posted by Judy yesterday which read: “If you’re the bloke in the blue polo shirt and hat, you should be ashamed…”
Holly then tried to neutralise the situation by adding: “Well I blame the tennis player, he should have aimed his throw better!”
The duo then went on to confirm that tennis player Jack, 24, had been in touch with the young fan and sent him a fresh towel.
This Morning continues weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
