Here’s Your First Look at the New, Christopher Plummer-ized ‘All the Money in the World’

A few weeks ago, we told you about Ridley Scott’s decision to recast and reshoot Kevin Spacey’s scenes in All The Money in the World in light of sexual harassment and assault accusations against the actor – a decision that seemed sort of insane, considering the film was completed and less than two months from release. But Sir Ridley appears to have pulled it off; Sony has released a new TV spot for the film, explicitly showcasing Mr. Plummer’s new, piping-hot participation:

There’s something mildly discomforting about the “LOOK, CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER, WE DID IT” tilt to the marketing that seems vaguely exploitative – or, y’know, maybe they’re as impressed as we are that Scott is somehow making this work.

He also talked to Entertainment Weekly about the reshoot, explaining that he finished shooting the Plummer replacement scenes on November 29, and that the film is “already done”: “I’ve been shooting since Monday [Nov. 20] and in with the editor every night since then. We’re not dealing with celluloid anymore; it’s all digital, and I send [the footage each day] to [editor Claire Simpson] and she cuts it, and I can go in and look after shooting. Everything I’ve shot is already in [the final cut] up through yesterday morning.”

Of the decision, Scott explained:

I sat and thought about it and realized, we cannot. You can’t tolerate any kind of behavior like that. And it will affect the film. We cannot let one person’s action affect the good work of all these other people. It’s that simple.

All the Money in the World is really, apparently out on December 22.
