John Hennessy is set to unveil the new Venom F5 tomorrow, which he is hoping will become the fastest car in the world.
Named after the F5 Tornado the car is hoping to achieve speeds of a similar nature, with Hennessy teasing that the car could be the first to ever travel 300mph.
A teaser image released by the American tuning house showed the hypercar next to a sign that says “SPEED LIMIT 300MPH.”
Currently the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition holds the official world record for the fastest car at 258mph, which Hennessy aims on obliterating.
For such a small car manufacturer Hennessy has lofty ambitions but they can also back them up with previous results.
Its first hypercar the 1,244bhp Venom, hit 270.49mph on NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre runway.
This record top speed did not make it into the Guinness World Record books, however, as the Venom’s run was only made in one direction and not both ways, as required to validate the record.
Typically Hennessey takes already super quick cars and tunes them to make them faster.
For the Venom F5, however, the manufacturer has set up a new division – Hennessey Special Vehicles – to develop the hypercar.
The F5 will therefore be an all new car.
Information about the car is sparse but on the company’s website it says it will ‘produce more than 1,451hp and have a top speed that exceeds 290mph.’
It will be built by the company’s new division in Texas.
Whether or not the car will be able to hit the 300mph target will be revealed tomorrow at the Speciality Equipment Marker Show in Las Vegas.
The event will be live streamed on Hennessey’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels from 11AM Pacific Time (6pm GMT).
