Health Canada moves to ban non-prescription codeine sales

For decades, Health Canada has been urged to restrict over-the-counter sales of medications containing low-dose codeine, an opioid linked to dependency and abuse. Now the agency is taking action, asking Canadians for input on a proposal that would require a doctor’s prescription to obtain such pills and syrups.
