Voldemort: Origins of the Heir is expected to be released at the end of the year.
Warner Bros have given offical permission for the remarkable film which explores the origins of one of the greatest villains in cinema history.
Film maker Gianmaria Pezzato explained: “We wondered, ‘What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back?’”
The new trailer looks spectacular considering it is totally fan made and all the money was raised through crowdfunding.
Pezzato revealed that the film studio got in touch when the project attracted interest with a Kickstarter campaign. The fund raising was immediately suspended while Warner Bros decided whether to block the unofficial production.
The filmmakers were eventually permitted to continue under certain strict conditions.
He said: “We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign. The only thing we can say is that they let us proceed with the film, in a non profit way, obviously.”
Pezzato said that the new project will draw on all the source materials from the JK Rowling books and associated movies, but will explore an untold aspect.
He added: “There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: The rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise.”
The trailer introduces a new hero – the heir of Gryffindor, Grisha Mac Laggen – as she tries to stop the emergence of Voldemort.
The plucky young wizard pursues her misgivings after Hepzibah Smith (descendant of the ancient Hufflepuff family) is found murdered.
The clues seem to point to Tom Riddle, but can anyone stop him?
