The RHS Flower Show will kick off on Tuesday at 10am in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey, Surrey.
Visitors can expect to learn all about Britain’s industrial decline, climate change and even the horrors of ivory poaching.
The flower show gardens include an urban rain garden to cope with increased rainfall as a result of climate change, and a dramatic display to highlight the plight of around 80 elephants killed each day for their ivory.
Designer Mark Whyte said the display is aimed at highlighting the scale of the problem.
He said: “Most people know about poaching and the ivory trade, but they aren’t quite aware of the quantity killed each day.
“We wanted to tell people how many get killed each day.”
The RHS Flower Show also features a butterfly dome, surrounded by a wildflower meadow, and caterpillar food plants such as nettles, grasses and heather.
A garden planted on top of a clear water tank and stainless steel base aims to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of the earth.
Talks at the ‘Celebrity Theatre’ will include TV nature presenters Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan, David Domoney, Charley Dimmock and Justin Fletcher from CBeebies, among other TV personalities.
