Haim Share New Track and Video Directed by P.T. Anderson, Announce Album Release Date

The teasers and billboards suggesting an incoming release from Haim are now bearing the fruits of a new track, an album release date, a title, and one of P.T. Anderson’s trademark, elegantly simple music videos.

The dynamic trio of power balladeer sisters just shared the video for a track called “Right Now,” the first off the album we now know is titled Something to Tell You. Like their breakout hit, 2013’s Days Are Gone, it’s produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, and features collaborations with former Vampire Weekender, Rostam Batamanglij.

P.T. Anderson, Pitchfork notes, has a surprising history with Haim: the sisters’ mother was his schoolteacher. The video he’s made with them is reminiscent of the “Hot Knife” video he did with Fiona Apple, in that its key interest seems to be showing the bones of the song, rather than adding excess symbolism or narrative onto it: it tracks the sisters in the recording studio, illuminating each of their contributions to the track, with Danielle on piano and vocals, Este on bass and singing backup, and Alana on guitar, before the latter two shift to drums for the song’s climax.

Listen to the bare, bittersweet track here:

Something to Tell You is out July 7.
