Ines Alves went straight to school just hours after escaping the horrific inferno which claimed the lives of her neighbours, because she was determined to sit her Chemistry GCSE.
The 16-year-old was hoping to take the subject at A-Level and knew she had to sit the exam.
“It’s what I knew I wanted,” she told This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford, 57, and Eamonn Holmes, also 57.
Ines performed what can only be described as a miracle as she not only took her exam under the most traumatic of circumstances, but achieved an A result.
Naturally, the teen received an overwhelming applause from the ITV studio.
Eamonn immediately asked: “How did you block it out…there must have been the smell on your clothes, the whole horror of what you’ve been through, knowing people had died – were you able to block it out?”
“For that hour I could,” Ines explained. “Once that exam was finished, that’s when I broke down in tears.”
Recalling the national pride she received after sitting her exam, Ines continued: “I don’t know how to describe it.
“I wasn’t expecting to get everything. I wasn’t expecting to get attention for sitting a GCSE exam like everyone else did.”
Viewers were in awe of Ines’ unbelievable achievements and flooded Twitter with congratulatory posts.
“Massive well done to the girl on #thismorning who sat her chemistry GCSE on the morning of the Grenfell fire and achieved an A!” enthused one audience member, as another beamed: “This young girl is amazing. Congratulations on your A grade #thismorning.”
A third wrote: “The girl who sat her Chemistry exam the day after being involved in the Grenfell tower fire achieved a grade A. Amazing. #thismorning.”
This particularly impressed viewer followed: “The human spirit is amazing After a tragedy like the #GrenfellTower well done to this brave young girl on her GCSE results #ThisMorning.”
