Great British Bake Off Final: Fans furious with Charlotte Hawkins – you won't believe why

The former Strictly Come Dancing star was discussing the result of last night’s nail-biting Great British Bake Off final when she revealed the winner.

Of course, the outcome was hard to avoid as Prue Leith announced the victor prematurely on Twitter yesterday, while the Channel 4 programme also announced Sophie Faldo as the latest Bake Off champion in front of millions last night.

However, for those watching Good Morning Britain this morning who didn’t catch last night’s show, Charlotte Hawkins kept them up to date – even if they didn’t want to hear it.

Viewers weren’t impressed as one hissed: “I swerved tweets about #GBBO yesterday so I didn’t know the winner (watching it tonight instead) For #GMB to say it today without any warning.”

“@GMB Some people don’t watch GBBO live. So thanks very much for giving away the winner! A warning before your report would have been nice,” snapped another, while a third fumed: “@GMB Thanks @CharlotteHawkns… I hadn’t watched GBBO yet #SpoilerAlert.”

“@CharlotteHawkns thanks for ruining the Bake Off result…!! No spoiler ahead warning at all. Great ‘news’ presenting as always from #GMB,” moaned one more, which was followed by: “@GMB thanks for spoiling the result of the bake off for me. Did really well not seeing it anywhere. Not even a spoiler alert.”

However, Charlotte stressed that even she hadn’t seen the Bake Off final yet and warned fans that the result was unavoidable as Sophie’s face is sprawled across the front of newspapers up and down the country.

Sophie pipped rivals Steven Carter-Bailey and Kate Lyon to the post last night, but many viewers already knew what was coming.

Tweeting from the Philippines, judge Prue posted 12 hours before the show: “No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie.”

The 77-year-old later followed with an apologetic post, telling her fans she was “mortified” by the blunder.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV, while Great British Bake Off is available to watch on All 4 now.
