Fans of the ITV murder mystery will remember Margaret and Sidney (James Norton) had a brief romance in series two before he returned to his childhood sweetheart Amanda (Morven Christie) in the Christmas special.
In the opening episode of the third series, Geordie was seen enjoying some harmless flirtation with the police secretary (played by Selibe Hizli).
Later on, during a private moment in the office together, the detective could no longer contain his passion for Margaret and began to kiss her.
However, their dalliance was observed by DC Phil Young (Lorne MacFayden) who saw the couple pressed up against the office window.
Those watching at home were less than pleased that the loveable character had cheated on his wife Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth).
One viewer exclaimed: “What Margaret & Geordie when did that happen #Grantchester.”
“Geordie!! What the actual f***?!? How could you?!? #Grantchester,” another fumed.
While a third raged: “Geordie and Margaret getting it on in the office was so seedy #Grantchester.”
