Grammys 2018: Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher wins posthumous award

Last night saw the biggest music stars hit up the red carpet for this year’s Grammy awards.

While artists like Bruno Mars took home a number of gongs, the late Fisher also won a prize.

The actress was honoured with Best Spoken Word Album for her autobiographical book, The Princess Diarist.

Based on her diary entries from the 1970s when she was filming the first Star Wars movie, the book was her last book before she died.

Fisher had been promoting it for five weeks, just before she passed away on December 27, 2016.

The Grammy was her second nomination and first win, after being given a nod for 2008’s Wishful Drinking.

Last night her fellow nominees in the Spoken Word category were: Neil deGrasse Tyson for Astrophysics For People In A Hurry, Bernie Sanders and Mark Ruffalo for Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, Bruce Springsteen for Born to Run and Shelly Peiken for Confessions Of A Serial Songwriter.

While Fisher starred in The Last Jedi, fans have been wondering if her Leia could be recast with Meryl Streep in Episode IX.

A new petition online has already raised thousands of signatures for Streep to replace her friend.

It says: “As the fans of STAR WARS and Carrie Fisher, we really want Leia to shine in Episode IX and we certainly do not want her to be written out of the film abruptly without a reasonable plot. Therefore, recasting Leia is a more ideal option for us and we believe that Meryl Streep is an ideal candidate to play Leia.”
