The Qatar Goodwood Festival kicked off today with a bang; hundreds of people flocked to the racecourse in Chichester for a day of fun in the sunshine.
The Group 1 Qatar Goodwood Cup – worth £500,000 – was the race to watch, but people will be more distracted by the race-goers.
The official dress code reads: “Goodwood is about dressing up but expressing yourself at the same time; it’s smart but never stuffy – take the joy of fashion and run with it.”
One woman was pictured sat on a concrete step with a glass of pop in a plastic cup flashing slightly more flesh than intended.
The bubbly blonde was sat with her friends when her floor length split frock fell to the side and she flashed her rose thigh tattoo.
There was no real fashion theme running through the crowd this year – but all the women appeared to be full of frivolity as they entered the gates.
It was a sea of colour across the bandstand with vivid red dresses being worn next to bronze skirts, large feather hats could be seen next to women wearing top hats.
Two women were pictured walking in together in matching skin-tight dresses.
The pair seemed to be having a great time despite walking next to two policemen carrying large guns, patrolling the area.
Security across Britain has been heightened thanks to recent attacks on the country – and it seems Goodwood Festival is no different.
Despite this, the Goodwood Festival prides itself on providing “great food and drink, music, socialising and glamour”.
Please note – bare chests and fancy dress are not allowed in any enclosure. Gentlemen are also discouraged from wearing shorts and sleeveless tops in the Gordon Enclosure.
The first race of the five-day festival was due off at 1.50pm and the final race concludes at 5.15pm.
Ladies’ Day kicks off on Thursday with more fashionable sights to behold.
Stewards’ Cup cavalry charge will take place on Saturday.
