Good Morning Britain: Iain Duncan Smith RAPS Eminem as he makes jibe at Diane Abbott

The former work and pensions secretary joined Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on the ITV breakfast show alongside former shadow secretary for business Chuka Umunna to discuss the upcoming election and the Labour Party’s plans.

However, as Susanna, 46, tried to introduce the guests, Piers, 52, interrupted with a bombshell.

“Can we just take a moment because, just in the break there, one of the most iconic cultural moments I think I’ve ever experienced on this sofa,” the controversial broadcaster announced. “Ian Duncan Smith, perhaps the last person that you’d expect to know this, was talking about a message for Diane Abbott, which was when he began reciting lyrics from Eminem.”

Chuka then burst out: “He was rapping! He was actually rapping!”

In a surprising turn of events, the politician was then encouraged by Piers to perform an encore for the camera, at which point he sheepishly admitted: “I said that his Lose Yourself lyrics are some lyrics for Diane Abbott.

“It’s halfway down and he says: ‘He opens his mouth but the words don’t come out. He’s choking now and the clock’s run out.'”

The Good Morning Britain hosts fell about in hysterics as Piers applauded Ian.

Shadow home secretary Diane made headlines last week with a disastrous interview when she couldn’t seem to get her figures right during an interview with LBC host Nick Ferrari.

She has come under a barrage of criticism after she announced that a law and order pledge to hire 10,000 extra police officers would cost only £300,000 .

Viewers flooded to social media to share their disbelief at Ian’s hilarious rap, a television moment bound go to down in GMB history.

“Too early to wake up to see Ian Duncan Smith rapping Eminem,” one person tweeted, while another giggled: “Ian Duncan Smith reciting Lose Yourself lyrics has actually punctured my lung.”

A third couldn’t quite believe what they had witnessed, saying: “Ian Duncan Smith spitting beats on GMB. What just happened?!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
