The German-born star was seen with his back to the camera leaning over the sofa.
When his wife Val asked what he was doing, he replied: “I want to water the plants.”
Realising what had happened, Val told him to “give them plenty”
Sitting back down, Ralf guessed something was up as Val asked him whether the plants were doing OK now.
He said: “Yeah, fine…why are you looking at me like I have two heads? You never give the plants water!”
“No, because they’re plastic,” Val responded.
The moment sparked a social media frenzy as viewers took to Twitter to comment on the gaffe.
One fan tweeted: “Omg I’m howling at Ralf watering the plastic plants @viv1gogglebox #Gogglebox.”
“Ralf watering a plastic plant has made my night #Gogglebox,” another wrote.
While a third commented: “#gogglebox Ralf you don’t need to water a plastic plant. So funny.”
