Mary and her husband Giles settled down in their rural Wiltshire home to watch Forces’ Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday tribute show on BBC when she became overwhelmed by her emotions.
Bursting into tears as she yearned for the good old days, Mary sobbed: “Just the sight of Vera Lynn is enough to make me burst into tears.
“Because she represents the days when the general person was very nice, unlike today,” she lamented.
Giles piped up with his usual sensible manner to try and console his wife, using their cute nickname for each other: “Come on Nutty, most people are nice.”
Mary’s reply will go down in Gogglebox history as one of the most hilarious moments the show has ever seen: “They’re all watching pornography and smoking skunk and stuff like that!” she responded through her tears.
Viewers were left in hysterics by her scene-stealing ramble and flooded to Twitter to share the hilarious moment.
“The woman on #Gogglebox crying because people aren’t nice anymore because they “watch pornography and smoke skunk” one person said.
Another chipped in: “‘Oh Mary most people are nice.’ ‘They’re all watching pornography and smoking skunk’ FFS Giles and Mary are my fav on #Gogglebox”
“I actually laughed and nearly weed lol. Oh Nutty,” one social media user said.
A fourth added: “Oh my LORD that is one of my favourite #Gogglebox moments EVER. MARY! I’m b****y screaming”
