Gogglebox cast SHAKE-UP as original member QUITS: ‘I’m taking the plunge’

Chris Butland-Steed, who appeared on the sofa with his former lover Stephen Webb in Brighton, has announced he will be leaving the Channel 4  show.

The Gogglebox regular and hairdresser has been on the hit reality programme for five years since its inception.

However, Chris took to Twitter to confirm he would be leaving before the 2018 series starts.

He posted in a statement: “After 10 series, a wedding, and a helluva lot of takeaways, our lovely dogs and I have decided it’s time to say a very fond farewell to our Gogglebox family. I’ve loved every minute of being on the show and will never forget all the amazing things it’s allowed me to do.

“Since my wedding, it’s felt like there should be a new start, so I’m taking the plunge to see what’s out there!

“I’m really looking forward to what the future holds, especially pursuing a career in TV, as I hope to show viewers that I have many more talents. So, watch this space!” he teased.

Chris added: “First and foremost, I’d like to thank the fans, for all their love and support (and selfies!), Studio Lambert and Channel 4 for giving me this wonderful opportunity, and of course, Stephen.

“I wish him and Mummy Pat all the very best on the show, and I look forward to watching them every week. See you again very soon, I hope,” he concluded.

Channel 4 also confirmed the news, and thanked him for “his fantastic contributions across ten series”, according to The Sun.

The news come amid speculation June Bernicoff could be returning to the sofa, following the death of her husband, Leon.

June’s husband, Leon, sadly passed away last year and it was believed she would not to return as a result.

When asked by a fan whether she would appear on the upcoming series, June replied: “It was a great adventure with a great finale with the NTA.”

Leon died last December at the age of 83 after a short battle with an illness.

The couple had been on the show since the beginning and were married for an incredible 60 years.

Shortly after, Gogglebox won the NTA for best factual entertainment and the accolade was accepted on behalf of Leon and June.

Googlebox will return to Channel 4 later this year.
