The 77-year-old was confirmed to be joining Paul, 51, as judges of the culinary contest when it launches on Channel 4, with Noel Fielding, 43, and Sandi Toksvig, 58, replacing Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins as hosts.
Prue has now spoken about her coveted new role and revealed that she turned to former GBBO heroine Mary Berry, 81, for advice.
“When Mary said she wasn’t going with it, I’ll confess I thought, ‘I’d quite like that job’,” she told The Sun. “So I rang her up before I took the job to find out about Paul. I was very anxious to know. She said he was lovely, so that was OK.”
Prue also insisted that despite reportedly being paid three times the amount of her predecessor Mary, she’s definitely not in it for the money.
“No, it’s interesting, I didn’t think about the money at all. That probably sounds quite arrogant but I am lucky enough to choose what I do. I don’t have to do it for the money.
“I heard that I was going to earn three times as much as Mary. That would be nice but I don’t know what Mary earned.”
Paul recently hurled bags full of praise at his new co-star Prue during his appearance on Loose Women earlier this week, where he compared the famed chef to his mother-in-law.
“Prue, obviously she’s got this huge professional background and I’ve got nothing but respect for her, I’m really looking forward to it,” he beamed.
“We’ve met and had a chat, there’s something there, she reminds me of my mother-in-law in a fantastic way, and I think we’re going to get on like a house on fire.”
Great British Bake Off is expected to premiere on Channel 4 later this year.
