Gareth Bale, 28, signed a new six-year deal with Real Madrid last year, and it was rumoured this deal made him the best paid player in the world.
His glory was short lived, as teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, 32, signed a slightly more lucrative deal shortly afterwards.
But this is unlikely to bother Bale, as he still enjoys a sizeable pay packet.
According to Goal.com, he earns a staggering £350,000 a week after tax.
As a famous face in sport, he doesn’t just earn money from his day-to-day job, and he has signed a selection of lucrative sponsorship deals.
He became the main face of Adidas’ football division alongside Lionel Messi, reportedly signing a new deal with the company in 2014 worth £20m over six years.
Bale also has deals with Nissan, Foot Locker and Konami, according to Forbes.
Added together, earnings and deals have placed Bale at number 24 in Forbes’ list of the world’s highest paid athletes in 2017.
He is 89th in the Forbes Celebrity 100 list for 2017. His total net worth, according to Forbes and the Sunday Times Rich List, is £25million.
This places him quite far behind his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who has spent years building up a lucrative brand for himself.
The Portuguese footballer earns a very generous £30.8million ($ 40million) salary a year.
He has played professionally since his teenage years, commanding a high salary from the beginning.
The then Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson saw Ronaldo play in 2003 and signed him to the club, making him the first Portuguese player to join the team.
His first contract was for one year, and he commanded £9.5million ($ 12.24million).
In 2007 he signed a five year £23million ($ 31 million) extension with Man United which would pay him roughly £92,000 ($ 120,000) per week. This contract made him the highest paid member in the team’s history.
But how much is Cristiano Ronaldo worth now?
