The 48-year-old actor is currently filming the eighth and final season of the hugely popular HBO fantasy and has dropped little snippets about what fans can expect.
Peter, who plays the much-loved Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, remained tight-lipped on the plot details but did reveal that it’s going to be hard to move on.
He said: “It’s bittersweet when it’s time to move on with everything.
“It’s always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it’s always heartbreaking.
“Especially when you’ve spent more than a couple months with people.”
What’s more, the actor said at Variety’s Sundance Film Festival studio that it is the right time for the show to come to an end, despite fans eager for more Game of Thrones action.
He confessed: “It’s time. Story-wise, not just for all our lives. It’s the perfect time to end it.
“Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing.”
This comes as the opening scene may have already been revealed, according to on-set sources.
Fan site, Watchers On The Wall, have revealed that filming has already recommenced in Ireland following a Christmas break.
They noted that one fan who is nearby to the set revealed that Moneyglass, the home of Winterfell’s expansive set, has already been the focus of filming.
Although unconfirmed, it is thought that season eight’s opening scene features the small village of Winter Town, a settled area on the outskirts of Winterfell.
With the White Walkers moving south, will this residential town be one of the first to be struck by a zombie massacre?
What’s more, director David Nutter has also reportedly been spotted on set, which adds weight to the above rumour as he is confirmed to be the director of episodes one, two and four.
Peter also teased that the first half of the season is in the can, lending more credibility to the fan observation.
Game of Thrones will return to Sky Atlantic in 2018.
