Games of Thrones season eight is a little over a month away, and with the release of the final series imminent, a star of the show has teased the end of hit HBO programme.
With lots of theories about the show emerging on a daily basis, it is refreshing to have some clarity at last.
Seemingly, Carice Van Houten, who plays Melisandre in the show, has ruled out a potential heir to the Iron Throne.
She admitted fan-favourite Samwell Tarly is unlikely to sit on the ceremonial chair, revealing: “Unfortunately, that’s not the reality.”
However, she insisted the series would deliver an exceptional finale episode without exemption.
Speaking to What’s On, she said: “It is what it is, and so that’s what it should be. There’s nothing to say about whether I’d change it if I were in charge.”
Nonetheless, the Dutch actress expressed regret with her character’s storylines not aligning with those of Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey).
“It’s really a shame there aren’t any scenes between them, but the storylines just didn’t come together,” she explained.
“It was a missed opportunity I think – it would have been really interesting to see that they got on as women as opposed to just fighting, because they’re not that different, they’re both loners.”
As for how she reacted when filming wrapped up, the TV star revealed she was emotional letting go of her on-screen persona.
“It was really hard,” she admitted. “I cried a lot.”
She continued: “I didn’t think I was going to – you know it’s going to come to an end and you prepare for that, but it’s still always a shock.”
Elsewhere, her co-stars Conleth Hill and Isaac Hempstead-Wright revealed not everyone will be pleased with the series.
Varys actor Conleth recently spoke to Radio Times about the upcoming season, and whether the fans would be satisfied with the ending.
However he replied: “Oh, f**k the fans.” Before clarifying what he meant.
“That was a joke! But I don’t know, I don’t know if you can please everyone,” he added.
Bran Stark star Isaac Hempstead-Wright then chimed in: “Not everyone’s going to be pleased, because it’s such a big show, and it’s divisive.
“But I think we have wrapped it up as convincingly and honestly and as cleverly as we could hope.”
Conleth finished: “I’m sure people will be moaning about something.”
Game of Thrones season 8 returns April 14 on HBO in the US, and the next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
