Season seven of the HBO fantasy left off with all of the series’ lead characters ready to join forces and battle against the impending doom of the White Walkers’ descent on Westeros.
Now, the 29-year-old actor has revealed that next season will see fans’ favourites plunged into all-new situations, saying: “Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that they’ve never been placed in before.”
The former Night’s Watchman star continued to TV Guide: ”The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond… This season, I think, more than any other is stretching these characters.”
The cast are used to being thrown into whatever scene the scripts give them next, especially given the series’ problem with spoiled plot lines and leaked episodes over the last year, and John assured that he’s always got a “pretty good handle” on his character’s development.
“These characters are so detailed and so rich, you can feel that you’ve got a pretty good handle on your character,” he shared. “You can predict how your character will react in any given circumstance, but when you place these characters in a new environment, it’s always putting them under a microscope.”
“You constantly have to reexamine your character,” the American Satan actor added.
Another star teasing tidbits about the show’s final season is Kit Harington, 30, who plays King of the North Jon Snow on the adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s mammoth novels.
Speaking to Deadline, he said: “I think there’s a certain pressure I’ve not felt before.
“Every year there’s always been a bit of pressure, but this season is one where we could easily let people down.”
Game of Thrones will return to HBO in 2019, and is expected to air on Sky Atlantic in the UK soon after.
