Many fans have still not forgotten the heart-wrenching love story between King of the North Jon and his Wildling lover Ygritte on Game of Thrones.
Red-headed beauty Ygritte was the first character to show Watcher of the Wall member Jon the ways of women and relationships back in season two.
While initially frosty to Ygritte’s advances, Jon eventually gave in and the pair slept together in one of the fantasy’s happier scenes over the course of its seven seasons so far.
But the romance was short-lived as in a devastating twist Ygritte was killed in season four.
Short through the chest with an arrow, in an even more tragic moment she died in the arms of her love, uttering the ever-famous last words “you know nothing, Jon Snow”.
After meeting and working together on the series, actors Kit and Rose then embarked on a real-life love story to rival their characters’.
Today saw the couple share their nuptials in front of family and friends at Rose’s very own Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire.
They were joined by fellow co-stars Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Sansa Stark), among others.
Even Daenerys Targaryen star Emilia Clarke joined the congregation to celebrate her friends’ special day, while Robb Stark actor Richard Madden sported traditional Scottish dress for the occasion.
Witnessing the pictures of the romantic scenes unfold, fans flocked to Twitter to share their excitement.
“Why isn’t Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s wedding being televised, that’s the royal wedding I wanna see,” one person asked.
“Another fan exclaimed: “Not to be dramatic but I am screaming and crying at photos of Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s wedding.”
“You’re mine. Mine, as I’m yours.“ #GameofThrones #GoTWedding,” a third posted, using actual quotes from the characters in the show.
While a fourth said nervously: “Hope everyone survives this wedding today… it’s Game of Thrones after all.”
Fans continued to share their feelings about the monumental event, as one noted: “The one thing I’m 100% sure of is that the Game of Thrones fandom will never forget this day.”
While the happy couple embark on their new lives as newlyweds, Kit’s on-screen counterpart’s fate may have already been decided.
According to one fan, it all comes down to the major players’ fight for the Iron Throne.
Reddit user juligen, wrote: “The ‘Chaos is a Ladder’ scene from season three foreshadows the major events from future seasons and who will take the Iron Throne in the end.”
They go on to explain: “When Littlefinger starts his speech about chaos being a ladder, he says: ‘Many who tried to climb failed and never get to try again because the fall breaks them.
“Some are given the chance to climb, but they refuse, they cling for the realm, or the Gods, or love. Those are illusions, only the ladder is real, the climb is all there is.”
Jon was then shown finishing his climb of the Wall with the wildlings – does this mean he will become the leader of Westeros after making it to the top?
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
