Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3: Jaime and Brienne die TOGETHER in tragic battle scene?

Last week’s instalment of HBO hit fantasy Game of Thrones gave fans some truly heartwarming scenes between favourites Brienne (played by Gwendoline Christie) and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

The warrior and Lady has arguably been instrumental in Jaime’s journey through the last seven seasons of the drama, particularly when the duo were thrust together in captivity.

Jaime then went on to save his new ally from a grizzly bear, and the pair became firm friends for life, even after the kingslayer went back to his sister and lover Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

But as viewers witnessed Jaime stepping up to knight Brienne on their last night before the white walkers were due to arrive in Winterfell, it could have been a foreshadowing of what’s to come.

And now the latest pictures could cement the theory Jaime and Brienne will have their last moments on Earth together, because they are seen in incredible distress preparing to battle the sinister Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and his minions.

So far Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) now-ice dragon Viserion is nowhere to be seen, but there are thousands of undead ice zombies lined up to lay siege to Winterfell.

It would make sense for Jaime and Brienne to die together given their history, and would be a fitting full-circle moment for both of them.

But on the other hand, Jaime has too much unfinished business with Cersei.

And what’s more, fans are still waiting for Brienne to accept Tormund Giantsbane’s (Kristofer Hivju) relationship proposal, so is it her time yet?

Also in the latest images, fans can scrutinise Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) seemingly worried about her sister Arya Stark’s (Maisie Williams) latest decisions, either that or the younger fighter may have just dropped a bombshell.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys can be seen standing atop a cliff staring down at the fort ahead of them, which could suggest they end up staying out of the almighty battle.

The final season of Game of Thrones will undoubtedly see some deaths along the way, but many suspect it will be mother of dragons and the mad king’s heir Daenerys who will lose her life in a dramatic and tragic final sacrifice.

King of the North Jon is one of the strongest contenders to end up on the Iron Throne and lead the whole of Westeros, particularly now it has been revealed he is the rightful heir as Aegon Targaryen.

But any number of twists could change the game before the finale airs.

One of the most talked-about scenes from the second instalment was Arya and Gentry’s (Joe Dempsie) sex scene.

With the possibility of only one last night ahead of her, the Stark character explained to her old friend she didn’t want to die without “knowing what it’s like,” before stripping off.

Speaking about the scene and what it could mean going forward to Metro.co.uk, actor Joe shared: “Though a main character like Arya forming such a deep connection with a secondary character like Gendry right before a battle would appear to be the kiss of death for the latter, Gendry could play a surprisingly political role in the later half of the season.

“If Gendry survives the battle to come, he could be legitimised by either Jon or Daenerys and given House Baratheon’s lands, the Stormlands.

“To be clear, a ‘Gendry Baratheon’ would not technically be an heir to the Targaryen crown before Dany or Jon (though Baratheons have some distant Targaryen blood), but Gendry’s Baratheon status would be enough for vengeful or ambitious Lords to prop him up,” the star added.

Game of Thrones continued Sunday on HBO and is simulcast on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
