The last season of Game of Thrones saw some long-running theories about Jon Snow’s (played by Kit Harrington) true parentage confirmed.
As speculated for fans of both the show and books for many years, Jon’s parents did indeed tun out to be Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
The ground-breaking revelation was made via flashback through one of Bran Stark’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) visions.
The premonition into the past shows a secret wedding between Rhaegar and Lyanna which is incredibly significant because it proves that Jon is not a bastard and is actually the rightful Targaryen heir – not Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).
In the flashback, the two characters were played by Wilf Scolding and Aisling Franciosi.
However, former child star Dylan Spouse is now being touted to potentially play the blonde Targaryen prince in season eight.
Who will play Rhaegar Targaryen in Game of Thrones season 8?
It is unclear whether Rhaegar will even be making an appearance in the HBO show’s final series.
If he does, it will likely be through more flashbacks as the character is long dead – unless George R R Martin has some more tricks up his sleeve.
Rumours circulating online are placing Dylan Spouse, whose brother Cole stars in Riverdale, in the important role.
The speculation began when the actor posted a photo of himself on Instagram in what appears to be full Targaryan armour.
WILL GAME OF THRONES RELEASE BE BROUGHT FORWARD AHEAD OF 2019?
The reports are unverified as yet, but the since deleted photo has sent fans into a frenzy.
The room in which the photo was taken looks very familiar and could possibly be the throne room in the Red Keep in King’s Landing.
Perhaps Wilf Scolding will continue to portray Rhaegar and Sprouse is due to play another Targaryen in another flashback.
When is Game of Thrones season 8 released?
The eight and final season will not be released until 2019.
The long wait is due to the massive production load and longer episodes which are sure to contain huge bloody battles and endless special effects.
