Game of Thrones season 7: Yara Greyjoy to be KILLED off? Gemma Whelan drops MAJOR spoiler

The 36-year-old actress has won over a legion of fans with her portrayal of Yara Greyjoy in the HBO hit series, however the character’s future remains uncertain.

The fierce ironborn warrior was last seen standing next to her brother Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) as they sailed towards Westerns with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

But although everything appears to be going swimmingly well at first for Yara, things soon take a turn for the worse.

“It starts out with everything looking tickety-boo for Yara, very quickly the wheels come off. She soon finds herself in a diabolical situation,” the British star told Yahoo TV.

Gemma also revealed the Greyjoy family is a force to be reckoned with in season seven as her brother Theon is finally back to himself after being tortured by Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

She continued: “Yara’s got a huge faith in family at the heart of it. Greyjoys have always had to stick together.

“Remember how hurt she was when she went to rescue Theon and he wasn’t the brother she loved anymore? Well this year he’s coming back, and there’s a beautiful circularity to what happens.”

With showrunner David Benioff hinting at a major sea battle, will Theon be the one to save Yara as they team up the with Mother of Dragons?

The actress has also teased that viewers could see Yara experimenting with her sexuality again as she said her character is “up for anything”.

Gemma added: [She’s] not a lesbian, as I often have to point out. She’s up for anything, she doesn’t discriminate — which I think is fantastic: she’s a very modern character in that sense. I’m really proud to represent her.”

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am on Sky Atlantic. Catch up on season one to seven on NOW TV.
