The 21-year-old actress has admitted fans of the hit HBO series will begin to dislike the flame-haired Stark as she begins to grapple with power.
After years of being suppressed and unable to do enjoy any freedom under the likes of King Joffrey (played by Jack Gleeson) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), Sansa will begin to crumble with her new found independence.
“This season, it’s really interesting. I think she might be a little more unlikeable, because she finally has this power, and she doesn’t really know what to do with it, and she really falters,” Sophie told Elle.
She continued: “It’s really interesting to see her like that, because the past few seasons, she’s been so strong.”
Game of Thrones viewers have watched on over the years as Sansa has been forced to quickly mature and quietly tackle issues on her own.
But even though she is now no longer a captive, she is more vulnerable more than ever.
Discussing her storyline with Access Hollywood, Sophie said: “The past seven seasons have seen her adapting to these situations while being a prisoner while being a victim and a captive. And learning and adapting how to deal with that means being silent and shutting your mouth.
“And finally she has this power that she has longed for but she has no idea how to grapple with that because it’s so foreign to her. So she’s almost more vulnerable now than she ever was.”
However, it appears Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) will be more than happy to help her with her new found power as he tries to influence Sansa by advising her on her big moves.
But Sansa is conflicted over whether to trust him after he previously handed her over to evil Ramsay.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am on Sky Atlantic. Catch up on season one to seven on NOW TV.
