Cinematographer Robert McLachlan, who worked on episode four of season seven of the HBO hit show, seemed to hint that the Kingslayer (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was still alive.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Game of Thrones crew member said: “I think Nikolaj delivered one of his best performances in the show so far. I think that’s largely what helped make it work.”
He went on to say: “That, and watching a battle where you’re rooting for both sides. You don’t want to see the dragon get killed, but you don’t want to see Bronn get killed.”
McLachlan added to the Verge: “I think it worked. I’ve gotten emails saying ‘Best episode ever!’ and it’s really gratifying.”
The words “so far” seem to imply that Jaime will be back again for more action in Game of Thrones after it looked like it could be curtains for the character.
He also did not mention anything about Jaime getting killed, again reiterating that the knight could still be alive even if he was in a sticky situation.
In the closing moments of The Spoils of War, Jaime foolishly charged at Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in a suicide bid to kill her, only to be met with a huge stream of fire from Drogon.
But before he was burnt to a crisp, someone dragged Jaime out of the way just in time as the pair plunged into the Blackwater Rush and to safety.
Jaime was sinking underwater as a huge ball of fire was seen on the surface, shortly before the screen cut to black, leaving fans speculating whether he was toast.
To add fuel to the fire, Coster-Waldau, 47, teased fans when he took to Instagram with a video earlier this week in which he cryptically said it was “not looking good for Jaime”.
The photos for episode five – called Eastwatch – released by HBO kept Jaime’s future ambiguous as well with one shot of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) sitting alone on the side of their bed and looking downcast.
Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) was equally upset in another picture, implying that tragedy could be on the cards.
Jaime, however, was nowhere to be seen in any of the pictures which further intensified the intrigue surrounding his fate.
