Currently with Daenerys Targaryen’s (played by Emilia Clarke) fleet, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) could be the force behind the Mother of Dragons’ success in Westeros.
One eagle-eyed Reddit user noticed that the latest trailer for the hit HBO drama shows one of Dany’s Unsullied attacking a House Lannister castle, which many believe to be Casterly Rock.
Whilst the fortress is well-guarded, there is one who knows the ins and outs of it like the back of his hand.
The Reddit user explained: “Back in season two when Stannis was headed for King’s Landing, Tyrion told Lord Varys that back when he was a young adult, he was put in charge of all the drains and sewers of Casterly Rock by Tywin.
“Could all this experience that Tyrion had manning the drains and sewers lead him to ordering his men to enter the castle though a secret route – a concept we have seen so many times in so many episodes?” they added.
Fans have seen the youngest Lannister gradually drift from his powerful family after not agreeing with what the tyrants have been getting up to.
Given his chance, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched that he would betray his family to help Daenerys – who he believes is the true Queen – take her place on the Iron Throne.
This latest comes after Emilia shut down rumours between her character and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) forming an alliance.
She told Style Magazine: “I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man.
“She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable,” the 30-year-old added.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic in the UK at 2am.
