Game of Thrones: Missandei star speaks out on show’s divisive ending ‘I’m not ready’

Daenerys Targaryen’s (played by Emilia Clarke) handmaiden Missandei suffered a brutal and untimely death on Game of Thrones.

The divisive final season of the HBO’s mammoth fantasy series saw the beloved character beheaded by the Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) minion the Mountain in heartbreaking seasons.

The moment was arguably the catalyst for Daenerys’ descent into madness, and ultimate death.

And as the show hurtled to its final conclusion, fans were left with mixed feelings.

Now Missadei star Nathalie has admitted the end of the series was like “going through a breakup”.

The actress, who’s currently starring in the TV reboot of Four Weddings and a Funeral, revealed she was faced with some difficult feelings when the show came to an end.

Former Hollyoaks star Nathalie explained the emotions felt like ending a relationship, and as a result, she struggled commit to new roles.

“When that ended, it was almost like going through a breakup,” Nathalie began.

“When other shows had kind of come along… that needed a six-year option, I was like, ‘I’m not ready!’” she told Entertainment Tonight.

The star continued: “It’s like I’m still sleeping in my old boyfriend’s jumper at night.

“I’m not ready for a new jumper. I’m not ready to date again!”

“It was that sort of feeling,” the actress added.

Once the Game of Thrones final had aired, an overwhelming number of fans were disappointed with the outcome for their favourite characters.

With criticisms the Mother of Dragons had been “destroyed”, and confusion over why Jon Snow (Kit Harington) ended up losing his role as King of the North and guarding the Wall once more, it prompted an enormous petition.

More than 1.7 million fans signed the online document asking network HBO to reshoot the whole of the final season.

Most of the cast and crew praised and supported the final product, but Natalia Tena, who played Osha the Wildling, revealed she wasn’t happy with the series’ ending.

She shared: “The calibre of writing towards the end and the plots and everything that happens and how they wrapped it up compared to any other season, any other bit…

“It just feels like it’s been written by different people.

“It doesn’t make sense, for me,” the star added.

Game of Thrones aired on HBO and UK fans can catch up on the final season via Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
