The 19-year-old – who plays Arya Stark in the HBO hit series – was at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Texas on Sunday with on-screen sister Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).
Discussing the upcoming final seasons alongside showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the actress revealed to the crowd that Sansa might not make it to season eight.
Sophie, 21, was sporting her natural blonde tresses when an audience member asked why she doesn’t have her character’s bold red locks.
According to a Twitter page, A Storm of Spoilers, Maisie responded: “She’s dead.”
The social media profile said a moment went by until producer David Benioff said: “Don’t worry, they won’t tell anyone.”
An uncomfortable laugh from the audience was then heard after her ambiguous comment.
The young star may have just been joking about Sansa’s fate, but as seen from previous seasons, fans should expect the unexpected when it comes to a character’s demise.
Elsewhere at the convention, it was announced the final season will feature the least amount of episodes ever.
The producers revealed season eight will only have six instalments, compared to the usual ten.
“It’s only going to be six episodes for the final season. From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie,” Benioff told the audience, according to Entertainment Weekly.
