FullMetal Alchemist on Netflix: Will there be a SEQUEL? When’s it released?

The good news for those who have enjoyed the film on Netflix since its debut last month is that it WILL be back.

It was confirmed last year, before the film’s release, that a Part 2 would be made.

The news leaked from the Anime Expo last year, where one attendee reported on Twitter: “So every character that we know and love in the Fullmetal Alchemist movie are coming along with a confirmed Part 2 to the movie.”

Hiromu Arakawa’s original manga consists of a hefty 27 volumes, so there’s certainly no shortage of source material.

But as for any precise plot or release date details, these are still yet to be announced.

The series is set in the fictional country of Amestris, where alchemy is one of the most popular sciences.

It follows brothers Edward and Alphonse after their mother dies – and they attempt to use alchemy to resurrect her.

It goes badly wrong, and their quest to undo the damage leads them into a seedy world of government corruption.

The first movie stars Ryosuke Yamada as Edward, and Atomu Mizuishi as Alphonse.

Critics haven’t been too excited about it: Variety called it “a hit-and-miss affair”, while IGN issued a three star verdict.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a score of 45%, although the audience score is a far better 70%.

FullMetal Alchemist is out now on Netflix.
