Matthew, who played funnyman Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004, said he decided to intervene upon receiving a script.
In an interview on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the actor confessed: “There was a storyline on Friends where Chandler went to a male strip joint because he really liked the sandwiches.
“I called up [the writers] and said, ‘Let’s not do this one’.”
Matthew, who, along with co-stars David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and Matt LeBlanc, was paid one million dollars per episode for the last two seasons, got his way and the plot was ditched.
The 47-year-old was also asked about rumours that the cast had a “no sex” clause in their contracts.
Recently, Ross Geller star David said that the clause had been “broken”.
However, in the very frank chat, Matthew denied any knowledge of cast members sleeping together.
He laughed: “I think there was no sex between any of them or I was really missing something.”
Unfortunately for fans desperate for a revival of the much-loved NBC show, Rachel Green actress Jennifer said she could not imagine a revamp happening today because of the advancements in technology.
“We were jokingly saying that if Friends was created today, you would have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into iPhones,” she told the Huffington Post.
She added: “There would be no actual episodes or conversations.”
