There is just two weeks left of filming to go, but after a set dispute Singer was fired.
Now Fox have hired Dexter Fletcher, director of Eddie the Eagle and Wild Bill and star of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Kick-Ass, Stardust and Bugsy Malone.
The filmmaker will also oversee post-production on Bohemian Rhapsody, and its currently unknown if he’ll reshoot many of Singer’s scenes.
According to Deadline Fletcher is set to direct an Elton John biopic, so a Freddie Mercury focused film will be good practice for him.
Singer was fired from the Queen biopic for going AWOL from set, following clashes with Rami Malek, who stars as Freddie.
The cinematographer on the project had to step in and direct on a few occasions after Singer was a no-show.
Sources told Deadline that Fox had been searching for a replacement even before the director disappeared over the Thanksgiving period.
The studios denies this and claims Fletcher was the only one offered the job following Singer’s sacking.
It’s still uncertain whether Fletcher will have a directing credit on the movie once its released in a year’s time.
Bohemian Rhapsody is released in UK cinemas on December 28, 2018.
