This morning 20th Century Fox caught everyone off guard by announcing new release dates for all four of the developing Avatar sequels that will start shooting this summer. But that wasn’t the only release date news the studio had to offer.
Fox has also confirmed the release dates for all of their Marvel movies in 2018, which includes X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Deadpool 2 and New Mutants. In addition, they’ve also shuffled the dates for The Predator, the delayed Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the remake of Murder on the Orient Express, and the spy thriller Red Sparrow. Plus, they’ve also given a release date to Steven Spielberg‘s next movie.

First up, the Deadpool 2 release date is much more prime real estate than its predecessor’s February debut last year. This time the Merc with a Mouth will hit theaters on June 1, 2018. However, it won’t be the first Marvel movie from Fox that year, because they’ve set New Mutants for a debut on April 13, 2018. Then the X-Men line-up will conclude the year with X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2, 2018.
Meanwhile, there’s good and bad news for fans eagerly awaiting The Predator from director Shane Black. The bad news is Fox has pushed back that movie from its February 2018 release date all the way back to August 3, 2018. The good news is that’s actually a vote of confidence in the movie. They’re putting it in that first August weekend, which is where the first Guardians of the Galaxy cleaned up at the box office since there’s usually not much competition in the rest of the month. That means they think it’ll be a solid summer release, but they don’t want it to contend with the rest of the blockbuster madness that summer.
Moving into The Predator‘s evacuated February 9, 2018 release date will be Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which had previously been set to come out the month before. The film’s production was delayed when star Dylan O’Brien was injured in a stunt gone wrong. The film was meant to resume production early this year, so either they’ve already started or they will soon and they’ll have the rest of the year for post-production after that.
In addition, the spy thriller Red Sparrow starring Jennifer Lawrence is going to take the actress back to The Hunger Games box office territory by moving from its initial November 2017 release date back a few months to March 2, 2018. The film got some solid buzz when the trailer played at CinemaCon not too long ago, and it should be a solid spring release for the studio.
Taking Red Sparrow‘s old November 10, 2017 release date will be the remake of Murder on the Orient Express, starring Kenneth Branagh (who also directs), Daisy Ridley, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, Lucy Boynton and more. It could be one that goes for some awards, especially in the acting department.
Also looking for some awards love will be the new film from Steven Spielberg. The press release from 20th Century Fox lists the film as untitled, but it’s presumably the film known as The Post that we learned about just last month., since that’s the only movie the director has set up at Fox. The film will see Spielberg directing Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in a story about The Washington Post‘s showdown with the United States government over the “Pentagon Papers,” a classified military document that was leaked to the press by military analyst Daniel Ellsberg.
Finally, for those who are itching for the sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, it’s been bumped up just a tad to September 22, 2018, a week before it was supposed to hit theaters. We’re still waiting on a new trailer to hit the web, but it’s on the way, so stay tuned for that and updates on all these films from 20th Century Fox.
Which one of these movies are you looking forward to the most?
