Fortnite Mobile has been a big success for Epic Games already on iOS.
A big enough group of players use the mobile port on a regular basis to create a substantial revenue stream from the app.
And with the new Fortnite Android downloads now spreading to new devices, it appears these mobile numbers are only going to go up.
But there’s one very exciting piece of news that might help boost the amount of Fortnite players on mobile further.
It has now been confirmed that improved controller support is coming to the Android platform.
This is being done through Google improving the button mapping used with the Xbox One controller, a device that’s already very popular among PC players.
According to recent reports, a button mapping bug was identified when Bluetooth was first incorporated.
The good news for fans is that a Google engineer has apparently marked the problem as fixed in Android Pie, the new build of the major mobile platform.
This could prove a massive boost for Fortnite on Android, as it will mean being able to skip the touchscreen controls that can slow players down.
It should be noted that fans will have to wait until Fortnite adds support for Bluetooth controllers on Android.
Luckily, it does confirm in the official Epic Games FAQ that Bluetooth support is planned, and billed as “coming later.”
Unfortunately, there is no set release window, so fans will need to keep checking back with the development team for further updates.
As mentioned above, with the Xbox controller bug removed through Android Pie, players will be able to use the controller properly with Fortnite, with Pie already known to include some notable upgrades.
This includes a new battery mode dubbed “Adaptive Battery” that Google claims monitors user behaviour to identify what applications should be a priority for juice.
This will mean distributing power more efficiently to improve better battery life, something that could prove helpful with Fortnite.
It stated: “Android 9 aims to make your phone even smarter by learning from you and adapting to your usage patterns.
“That’s why Android 9 comes with features like Adaptive Battery, which learns the apps you use most and prioritises battery for them, and Adaptive Brightness, which learns how you like to set the brightness in different settings, and does it for you.”
Some fans have been waiting to play the hit Battle Royale game on their mobile phones for a very long time.
The initial release on iOS proved to be huge for Epic Games, who reportedly saw their hit iPhone app rake in 90$ million dollars over the first three months.
This was followed by a very long wait for the Fortnite Android beta, which came with its own limitations.
A deal with Samsung has meant that the game has been limited to a small selection of devices in August.
However, it appears that this exclusivity period has ended, with more Fortnite fans now able to try out the game on their Android devices.
The official Fortnite beta site has been updated with a new list of compatible devices, a list that is likely to grow over the coming months.
Here’s the updated list of phones that now Fortnite on Android:
