And not only is it being teased by a major games publish but it’s also a very well reviewed game, available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Fans have plenty of first-party releases to look forward to on the Nintendo Switch, Metroid Prime 4 and the new Pokemon RPG getting the most attention of late.
However, third-party support is always important and it appears Blizzard might getting ready to announce something.
Gamers have a list of Blizzard games they’d like to see ported to the Nintendo Switch – WarCraft 3 anyone? – but it doesn’t look like it will be either Hearthstone or Overwatch.
However, Diablo 3 fans could be in for a treat.
A new teased has been posted by Blizzard on Twitter, and it’s probably not what you would expect.
A six-second video posted on social media reveals a Diablo nightlight being turned on and off… via a Switch.
“Sweet dreams,” video caption reads.
It’s not the most straight forward tease, but it’s hard to think what else it could really mean.
It should be noted that Diablo 3 is a very highly reviewed game on PC, earning an average metacritic score of 88, based on 86 critics.
So while it probably won’t be dethroning Zelda Breath of the Wild anytime soon, it will no doubt prove popular with fans on the move.
Rumours of two major ports coming to the Nintendo Switch started earlier this year and included Fortnite Battle Royale and Diablo 3.
Fortnite Battle Royale has been tipped by one industry insider to release on Switch in August or September.
The rumours started when Marcus Sellars tweeted: “Fortnite = Nintendo Switch.”
Asked for more information, Sellars said that it came from a very trusted source and that the port would launch later this year.
He also dropped the Diablo 3 bombshell, suggesting that the Blizzard game would hit Switch next year.
“Diablo 3 is in development for the Nintendo Switch and should be out early 2019,” he tweeted. “They are wanting to implement Local play with multiple switches.”
It seems pretty early to be teasing such a project if it’s not arriving until 2019, but perhaps it’s Blizzard reacting to these recent reports.
Epic Games has expressed interest in porting Fortnite to Switch in the past.
Epic’s Donald Mustard was recently asked if the company was interested in bringing Fortnite to Nintendo Switch.
And he replied: “Yes. Yes I am. Hopefully we do that at some point!”
It should be noted that niether Epic Games or Blizzard have announced plans to port their games to the Nintendo Switch, at this time.
